Reviews
Immortal Masterpiece
"Johann Strauss II's immortal masterpiece, directed most impressively by Richard Warner, showed just why this operetta, first performed in 1874, has remained a firm favourite.
Featuring some of Strauss' most enchanting music and a fast moving, farcical plot, 'The Bat' transported the audience to an era of joviality, indiscretion and extravagance.
New musical director Emily Tyrrell certainly made her mark – not once did the orchestra and chorus part company – and atmospheric sets and colourful costumes added to the visual delight.
It would be impossible to single out a star performance from among the major characters: Eleanor Peberdy (Rosalinda), Michael Faulkner (Gabriel), Jo Hargreaves (Adele), Stewart Vick (Dr Falke), Michael Hawkins (Frank), Alan Grainger (Alfred), Jean Chalk (Prince Orlofsky) and Rex Wheeler (Dr Blint) kept us keenly following every twist of the plot.
Ballerinas Georgina Roberts, Helen Hastings and Harriet Mills provided an enchanting interlude and it was clear everyone on stage was enjoying the performance as much as the audience."

Enchanting Melodies
"Enchanting Johann Strauss II melodies were beautifully sung and interpreted by the experienced cast.
It is rare to find two tenors of the quality of Mike Faulkner 'Eisenstein' and Alan Grainger 'Alfred' in the same show. 'Frank' Michael Hawkins' baritone solo was spine tingling in the ensembles 'Brother Mine'. Eleanor Peberdy was a charming 'Rosalinda' and Jo Hargreaves 'Adele' also sang well.
A fine 'Prince Orlofsky' Jean Chalk, a rather stilted 'Falke' Stewart Vick and a superb 'Frosch' from Bob Taylor completed the main cast.
Chorus singing was excellent and a sympathetic orchestra completed a most satisfying production."
